why cant i update the software, im the only user onthe machine and it says i dont have permission to write folders and crap

Really isn't a big deal...

Doing a Repair Permissions using Disk Utility is the one maintenence utility you need to perform on your Mac occasionally.

Nothing is perfect your Mac included, occasionally processes get scrambled requiring a restart or maintenence utility.
