Hit google - there is mondo information covering your questions in detail

well i've googled "how to setup a file server" several times, and could not find out how. i'd rather now use linux unless i have a good tutorial.

but i do respect your opinion, CanadaRAM, i've seen you around here a lot. i don't know how much you know about this topic, but if you do know alot about it, i would like your personal opinion, and what you have set up.

For an easy to follow, illustrated guide to setting up shares on your network, edesignuk put together the perfect post (ignore the Windows 2003 details), and it's here:

You can share an entire drive just the same as any folder within that drive. The process is exactly the same.

With a Mac running OS X Tiger, you can easily connect to a Windows-based server or Windows PC that has file sharing enabled.

I am glad you respect my opinion.

But I do wish you would respect my time as well.

I am not willing to lead somebody by the hand through setting up their system if they are not willing to do more than 60 seconds worth of research for themselves, or to follow the suggestions already given. There are people I do that for, they are called 'customers' and I charge them $75 per hour to solve their problems.

Above are 5 links from Google that took 2 minutes to find.

Those are the last words on the subject, and to you, from me.

thank you for your time. i guess i owe you $2.50, since that took you 2 minutes to find on Google.

i said i respected your opinion, and i really wanted your opinion on the subject, not necessarily how to do these things.

in other words, what you thought was best to do.

right now i connect my 2 computers - powerbook and iMac, using SMB. i also use SMB to connect to my pc when i do connect them, but i've never tried connecting all three at the same time.

Is anyone using a Simpleshare with OS 10.4.10? I have one but I'm running OS 10.3.9 and I've read that there are problems with Tiger and of course there will be with Leopard.

Right now I think I'm going to have a worthless NAS drive for my Powerbook once I updgrade to Leopard.
