iPhone 13 mini Hot iPhones are a software problem with iOS 17.

After upgrading to iOS 17 my 13 Mini gets unusually hot while running specific apps (mapping apps in my case). I’m convinced the “Titanium iPhones are too hot” issue is software related and will be corrected by a ”bug fix” update from Apple.

Anyone else experiencing a warm/hot device that was previously fine before iOS 17?

While I didn't experience any heat with 14PM or 15PM...I do believe culprit is with iOS17. Of course titanium gets warmer which is why some getting hotter than usual 15 pro's

I noticed this on my iPhone 13 Pro and again on the 15 Pro. It seems to be Facebook and/or Instagram. When I close both, the heat issue stops.

That's odd because I also use a 13 Mini & haven't had any heat issues from iOS 17. What apps specifically are you having issues with?

I haven’t seen any heat issues on my 13 Pro Max. If anything, it seems to been running better on 17. Having now seen the 15 Pro Max in the flesh, other than my fears that the 16 will be dual eSIM, I’m struggling to find justification in upgrading.

My 14 Pro got surprisingly hot just on a phone call for 20 mins on Friday - sitting inside my air conditioned car without a case on, even.

After a full iOS update the system performs a large number of background operations that tasks the A-series SoC and this is why battery life often drops during this period. I would also expect the SoC to generate more heat as the cores would be working at a higher sustained load running all these tasks. New app updates might be triggering the same.

If it is still running hot after a couple of days after updating to iOS 17 and your apps have updated, then I'd start to become concerned.

How do you mean? Titanium conducts much less heat than aluminium (or steel). It would feel less warm to the touch. Actually, titanium can be used as an insulator.

I wouldn't say "heat" but my 14PM gets warm from time to time since iOS 17/17.01 and not so with iOS 16.

My Wife's 15 Pro is getting VERY hot after 15 minutes of talk on the phone. She also said this is a problem at 27 minutes, but still there is an issue here.

I think that apps which aren’t optimized for iOS 17 might be partly responsible. If you’re upgrading your phone and restoring from a backup, that might cause issues on top of the new OS. So many factors because each user has different apps, messages, photos — so what one user experiences isn’t what another might.

I will answer you this. Introducing a"feature" to stop charging at 80% makes no sense at all. Add to the reviews saying the phone runs exceptionally hot, which in turn does affect battery health. If you put those two things together I am pretty sure at least one person on this forum knows whats going on.

My 12P got the temperature warning shut down when I used a dash cam app and played music through Apple Music at the same time, other than that it did not get hot. I used the iOS 17 beta through to the current one. My 15PM I have not used a dash cam app but my phone does not get hot. Probably using a dash cam app makes it hot
