I've been curious about the pricing model Apple uses for manufacturers of third-party trackers that use the Find My network via the MFi program, but haven't had much luck finding anything, so asking on here.
Does the program require a once-off payment per device to Apple, or does it operate on a subscription model? Apple has built a phenomenally powerful network and so the latter does not seem too unreasonable (though might create paperweights once tracker manufacturers go under and stop paying the subscription).
Also, how are the extremely cheap trackers on Temu/Aliexpress etc. able to use Find My — are they doing it officially via MFi, or is there some workaround in use?
