I was reading this thread (below) about someone deciding between 2 17"s or 1 20" monitors and it got me thinking,
thread link: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/101069/

I'm a huge screen real estate user. I love every single inch of it. I have a 23" CinemaHD for my desktop (need to upgrade my laptop to one with a DVI port that's WUXGA capable) and find myself wishing the resolution were even higher. (the new 30" from Apple? Or save up 125k USD for http://www.9xmedia.com/pages-Build_a_system/X-Top---5over5.html that monstrosity? :p :D)
However, I'm absolutely positively unable to figure out how to use a dual monitor setup. Every time I do, whether desktop or laptop, no matter how I set it up, I end up pretty much just using a single screen with the other relegated - at best - to something like an e-mail or IM client that I want visible but not taking up space in my primary workflow (which tends to be one application taking up as much screen space as I can give it, using alt/apple-tab to swap). Since Mac users are, in my experience, some of the most ardent supporters of multiple display setups, I decided to pop over here and ask "how do you use multiple displays effectively?"

As a developer, I find it handy to have API documentation on the second window as I develop. I will also use the second window for iTunes.

I have heard that some graphic designers use one monitor for all of the pallete windows/etc. and the other for the art being worked.
