Every mac I have ever owned has had disk utility on it. But these have all been pro level machines. My wife's new ibook is having some issues and I would like her to repair permissions, but she is telling me she can't find disk utility anywhere. Any reason the OS in an ibook would not have disk utility?

Disk Utility is in the Utilities Folder

Finder keyboard sequence = Hold down Shift key + Apple key and press the U key

Turns out her Library was fried. This killed spotlight and hence when she typed "Disk Utility" into it she got no hits. Proves you shouldn't rely on new software. The old fashioned way found DU and fixed the trashed library.
