iChat and h.264

Hi there!
I am one of those still using 10.3.9 with iChat 2.1 (v153) and my iSight.
My friend just got a new iMac with build in isight and he offcourse have tiger and so on.
Now i was wondering if we are using h.264 when we are videochatting?
If not, do you think we will see an quality improvement if i go tiger?
