Hi all, I have put another thread about connecting an external DVD drive on my iMac and causing it to shut down and never coming on again and today I connected the same DVD drive on another iMac and that one restarted luckily instead of permanently going off. Can it be a case of this DVD drive short circuiting the iMacs? Regards

I certainly find it hard to believe. Unplug all peripherals and unplug the power adapter from the iMac and let it sit for 10 min before attempting to boot the iMac.

Tell us more about the DVD drive.

Who made it?
Is it USB?
Is it bus-powered, or does it have its own power supply?

Take a pic or two and post them here.

Does the imac has any safety tripping part to protect it from this kind of scenario? When i plugged the DVD drive on it i used the power supply from a different device and maybe that's what caused this problem.
