Hi all,

I am the coordinator for a local Community First Responder program in my area, which helps save lives by getting to patients quickly with an A.E.D. who are waiting for an ambulance. It is a voluntary scheme.

Currently we have to send several different 2 digit text messages to the ambulance control system to update our status, this takes time. So I am looking for an app which will speed things up.

Is there an app out there which will put a single or several buttons on my home screen which I could press, and that will send the message for me.

Thanks for reading, please help.

Evan.

It is not possible for any app to send a message without you pressing Send in the Messages app on a non-Jailbroken phone.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4S: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

The closest thing you're going to get to that idea you need, is Siri. Just press and hold the button and tell Siri who you want to text, what you want to say, she repeats it, and then say send.

Standard Apple iPhones don't allow apps to modify the lock screen.

You could jailbreak your iphone, which allows apps to modify iOS, and install something like BiteSMS which allows you to instantly open and enter sms from the lock screen. I had mine set to open a quicksms box via two presses of the down volume button.

Reading your email again, do you mean you want several icons on your home screen, each of which sends a preset, standard message?

Not sure if there's anything that can do that. There are several standard (non-jailbroken) apps that can present you with a list of templates to send off e.g. Quicky and others.

Please excuse the product placement but I think my app QuickButton could do 50% of what you want.
With it you can create different buttons on your Home Screen that will launch the SMS composing screen with a predefined number.
Unfortunately it is not possible to define a message body.
You will still need to type the 2 digits and press send but it is a bit faster than the usual way.

@ECranage: Let me know if you need a free code for testing.

Thanks for your reply.

Pressing the send button would not be problem, but what I would want is there to be several buttons on the home screen all of which send or compose a different message.

ie. 1 button which is called "Arrived" which would send a SMS of "03" to a fixed number.

Is this possible?

As above unfortunately not as the content of the message cannot be auto-filled. The only way I can see this being possible is by bypassing the Messages app and using some sort of SMS gateway that can be accessed over the Internet.

You can pre-fill message content on an SMS in iOS5. I do this with MutiSig.

What's MutiSig? Neither the App store nor Google know anything about it.

I have found this app called SOS iEmergency which can fill in the SMS and send it, so it can be done.

"SOS iEmergency is the first and only SOS iPhone application that can save lives. Should you find yourself in a real emergency situation the SOS iEmergency application can be triggered to send an emergency message to the respective emergency numbers [MEDICAL, FIRE, CRIME] and can therefore save valuable time in the rescue efforts."

This app goes a bit too far for what I want though.

Anybody got anymore ideas?

Evan.

Some are using our app Group Text to do this using templates. Setting up templates and list of recipients you can send predefined texts to predefined recipients with only a few taps. More on http://www.redbits.com.
