Just activated mine. Went without a hitch. Through the forms in about 1 minute - activation took about 3 more. Simple as can be.

I am an existing customer - so that may be why.

I'm waiting for the transfer to complete right now. But let me tell you - you will NOT want to touch this thing. Holy CROW they are absolutely beautiful.

I am interested how screwed up my plan will be though. I already had data and text on my account. Think those got cancelled correctly and replaced with the unlimited ones!? I doubt it. :)

Cingular website is smoked right now - so I'll double check tomorrow.

Caller ID

When someone calls you from a different area code does it show where they're calling from (ex. state name or city name, state name)? I know Sprint has a feature like that.

Waiting for my activation for 30 mins... Cant even use my OLD phone... I AM PISSED!!!!! I cant believe they deactivate my old phone and cant even use the new one. ATT SUX!

You bought a high demand product that required your number to be ported and online activation and you are upset that it is backed up?

I am just laughing at you.

i just picked my iPhone 8gig. Arrived at the AT&T store in waltham, ma at 330pm. 6pm doors opened but store only let in 5 customers at a time. I was about 25th in line. total line was around 100 or so. By 630pm i'm about to get in when the mgr comes out and says they only received about 40 iPhones.. Once i got in the store i made a b-line for the register where i was told there were only 2 8gig models left. While the guy in front of me was checking out.. all of their web-based purchase systems crashed. manager called other at&t stores who indicated they were all down as well. About fifteen minutes later the web-based system was back up and running. I checked out and i'm now back at the house setting up the phone.

I'm moving from verizon to at&t and want to keep my current number. the iTunes setup progressed nicely.. at which point its hanging for about 10 minutes on the 'processing account with AT&T' screen. i receive two emails to my account (while this screen is still processing) that the order will take some time to process.. so i have to wait for an email now. The iTunes setup basically says the same thing. I cant get into the phone past the splash screen where you can enter an emergency number...

.... so i continue to wait.

Impressions of the at&t store purchase. I cant believe they only sent the store 40 phones.. thats absolutely crazy. I was pissed for the people behind me who waited for a few hours.. that sucks.

hanging here w/out anyway to get into the phone sucks too.

FYI.. no apple bluetooth headsets avail either... so i picked up the holster case and in-car charger.

Nope my number did not have to be ported!! I am a Cingular customer. I get a new phone EVERY 3 months and never had an issue before... why would I expect one now.

And I can understand the delay, but dont deactivate my old Cingular phone.

When I first walked into the apple store to buy it I saw somone elses box and couldnt belive that they fit everything into such a tiny box. Then I got home and plugged it in activated it...Took maybe 10 mins and My credit wasn't deneyd which was my biggest shock being a college student. I uploaded everything I wanted to and played with youtube for a little and all I can say is WOW... the screen is amazing. I just have one question...How do we know when it is fully charged.

Apple Happy

I am real happy for your guys. This is another leap for Apple to prove its dominance in the computing and design world.

I am an expat, currently living / working in Malaysia - and based on the subnormal internet service here + when the iPhone ever reaches us (maybe version 2.0 or 3) = we are going to get such a slow internet connection and at allocated locations only. Well, it'll be limited. At least we can still use the phone to chat, play games, and music.

posting from the iphone - overall very good browsing experience. Typing hard at first. A little awkward. Transitions very fast.

Activation time

i would like to have more precise info about the time required to activate, please mention the carrier u are switching from, they are probably most responsible for the delay.

ive talked to 3 different people on the iPhone, every single one said "i can't believe how clear it is" and one said it sounded like I was standing right next to them

i have not been this pleased/surprised/impressed/astounded by a consumer electronics product I have EVER purchased. and I buy a lot of junk.

a big thumbs up to apple. they nailed this one.

Problems Activating

Was 9th in line to get my iPhone had it in hand by 6:16 and as of 8:15 still have not been able to activate my phone even though I'm right outside the store on my laptop with broadband card. The store sold out in 40 minutes and all those others are already home probably activated already. The message i get:

We're sorry AT&T has determined that your account (an existing customer) cannot be used with this iPhone

If you are a business customer visit AT&T Business Center. Otherwise, please call 1-877-419-45xx. To complete this activation you may also create a new AT&T account.
Click continue to proceed.

Been on the phone with AT&T activation support for almost two hours trying to get beyond the third activation screen.

After having the store close on me and me driving an Hour home am now on hold, going on 15 min waiting for an activation specialist. Will post again after they find why my phone is ineligible for activation

Regarding MEEBO...

I was able to log into meebo but when I open up a chat with someone, I cannot figure out how to send a message. Because you need to hit enter to send a message, and I can't figure out how to do that.
