If someone is looking for a new phone, wouldn't that be relevant? Why would you want to be fair comparing the same company's phones?

I wouldn't say so...The iPhone is two years old now - all components (sans the A15) should have gotten cheaper.

But then again, I have an unusual way of looking at the situation.

Apple could have added a few things to really make this great: Ultraband whatever (so that I can use by AirTags properly with my new SE), Night Mode (though, they *may* be camera-system dependent).

It’s $429… around the price point I was expecting.
Yeah, but that means it will be like $600 one it reaches my country. A ridiculously expensive price for what you get. It will be competing against the likes of Samsung Galaxy S21 FE.

The least Apple could’ve done was to make the base storage to 128GB, but nope. Just up the price. :(

It shouldn’t be near the cost of an S21 FE tbh. The $30 price hike is probably unjustified but that’s the cost of tech now that we are seeing a lot of supply chain disruption. I saw a lot of things that I like in this Apple Event but I will probably just keep my money in the meantime and wait until September before pulling the trigger on something substantial.

I agree with the storage. Even my Mini 12 which I bought on release is 64gb. It’s one of the main things that is bugging me with this phone.

In my country, it will be around the price point of the S21 FE. The 128Gb 2020 SE was launched at $620 in my country, which is where the 128GB S21 FE pricing is at.

Yes, I agree it might not be worth it for you then. That is a shame because the SE2022 seems to be at a fairly reasonable price point elsewhere.

Not worth it here either, better off waiting for a discounted 13 mini instead.

I suppose. I would be more inclined to pay an additional $125 for a Mini 13 in Sept/Oct which has an additional 64GB of storage, an OLED panel, MagSafe capability and a modern design than this thing.

Point well made.
They’re starting to drop in price over here, $100 off at the moment, hopefully they’ll drop to $700 like last year.

Maybe that’s Apple’s strategy. Price the lowe end at ridiculous prices so people are nudged to just get the flagship iPhone. ?

I have noticed the same over here. God damn, I am so tempted to pull the trigger on a 13 Mini now more so than ever. You are right, the SE 2022 isn’t really an option when you think about it. It should have been more reasonably priced.

Sounds like it. I like the fact that it’s future proofed due to the chipset but I think you’re giving away a lot of features to the 13 Mini which isn’t much more expensive. Not as impressive a deal as I first thought!

I think the phone is a perfectly good deal. My girlfriend is looking at upgrading from her SE 2016, and she's looking at the 13 mini and this SE, and the price difference is a couple of hundred dollars, depending on needs. The SE is approaching $300 less, it's got a great chip, the camera is a few years old but the chip's computational photography capabilities go a long way towards improving that. AND it still has Touch ID, which might be what swings the deal for her.

Instead of releasing the SE3 I think most people would’ve preferred a price dropped $199 SE 2020. I have 5G on my 13 mini and it’s one of the most overhyped technologies in recent memory

Apple wouldn't ever sell a new iPhone for $199. Apple has strict requirement for margins on iPhone, and that's why they actually increased the 2022 SE starting price.

They had to also raise iPhone 12/13 pricing by $29 to justify the 5G modem. Carriers generally subsidize it.
