ever since c2d has been released for the mbp everyone has been making a huge fuss about the lcd (backlighting, viewing angles, grainy)...but how come it was barely talked about for cd mbp?...aren't they both using the same exact lcd?..i would think if the display was so bad, this issue would have been brought up in the coreduo machines.
so are the lcd's the same or different for the c2d and core duo mbp 15'in

Yes, of course they are the same display. There were many people complaining about the first MBPs too - I certainly did. And the last generation powerbook used a similarly low quality display....

Well on a positive note, Apple certainly fixed enough of the other issues that the display issues stick out as glaringly obvious.

The answer is yes and no. Take a look at this post by commander.data:

How do you identify which display you got?

Anyway the AUO panel is added in addition to the other two, so yes, the C2D MBPs are still using the same panels as before.
