Don't know for sure...

...but i'm assuming it relies on some code in windows media player for windows. That's one of my biggest feature requests for the Mac but I don't plan on seeing it anytime soon.

They can do it on Windows because the WM(A/V) framework is part of the OS, similar to QuickTime on MacOS. It's not guaranteed with MacOS (although I think it's possible if you pay for the encoding version of Flip4Mac), so they don't advertise it as a feature.
