Why can the windows version of iTunes convert .wma files but the mac version doesn't even touch them?

I did not know that the Windows version of iTunes converted wma files.
I just use Easy WMA to convert.

    Don't know for sure...

...but i'm assuming it relies on some code in windows media player for windows. That's one of my biggest feature requests for the Mac but I don't plan on seeing it anytime soon.

They can do it on Windows because the WM(A/V) framework is part of the OS, similar to QuickTime on MacOS. It's not guaranteed with MacOS (although I think it's possible if you pay for the encoding version of Flip4Mac), so they don't advertise it as a feature.
