Joining Windows XP/7 to Open Directory 10.7.2

Can someone please forward me any instructions on how to bind a Windows XP/7 machine to a pure Open Directory domain running on 10.7.2?

Depending on the forum I go to, I see that it is possible or not possible to do.

Why are you trying to do this? What are you trying to achieve?

Why not use AD?
