I have been very happy with my MacBook Pro being my main computer but I wanted to get a Mac Pro so I could hook up more monitors and have some better/faster storage options.

My main concern is how to keep both computers sync'ed (This was the main reason for deciding to get rid of all my computers and just have 1 powerful laptop). I don't want to spend money on .mac and had an idea about using rsync to do it for me but wanted your opinions on it.

If I setup rsync to update my home, library, system and applications directories between both computers, will that work or will it just cause problems?

I used something like this for a long time to keep my home folder synced on two Macs. This went pretty well. I can imagine that it will get more difficult as soon as you sync the Library, Applications and especially the System folder.
