I think it's a really good spec. Glad that 1GB RAM is now minimum on a pro machine... Good HD size too, didn't expect such a leap...

I wish I could afford one... Please, please, please let the MacBooks be updated before xmas, even if it's just HD and RAM...

The UK store's still down. Probably still working out what to add by way of the inexplicable non-US price premium. Don't worry Apple, we'll work around it and buy in the States still.

Oh, and yey! Finally! Just what I've been waiting for for feckin' ages! :D :D :D

You might try buying in Canada, instead. I don't know the details of this, but the base MBP is $1,999 in the US, and $2,199 in Canada. According to this currency converter, $1,999.00 USD = $2,260.74 CAD -- $60 Canadian in savings.

That UK premium, for our US readers, is $677 extra on the mid-range MBP. A 27% premium just to cross the Atlantic. The mid-range one is cheaper in the States than the cheapest one is here. Come on Apple, stop this!

(I know most people know this, but it's real for me now cos I'm actually getting one of these beasts from the US by hook or by crook)

thank you apple!

saved me about AUD$500!!!!

17inch standard spec on developer w/AppleCare = AUD$4100, down from around $4600+.

First person to get their shiny new MPB must share their experiences (that be good and bad)!

They've dropped the UK price by another £50 if I'm not mistaken. A US one works out at £1069 + sales tax. I paid £1150 inc tax back in March for £1499 worth of 1.83Ghz.

Luckily my Sis is visiting friends in Dallas in a few weeks. It's either that or £1249 with Mum's education discount for a UK Spec with the small enter key.

Anyone have a take on how discernable the difference between the 4200rpm and the 5400rpm will be, performance wise? I'd love to thave the storage space, but not if I'm kicking myself for downgrading the hard drive enough that the processor upgrade is much less pronounced

I currently have a 1.5GHz G4 with a 120GB HD I upgraded myself.

Review of the likely drive here.

Best stick with a 5400rpm methinks.

I called my local store and they will get stock in on Thursday. Should I wait and go to the store or order online now? I won't be getting a custom one now that the HDD size is over 100G.
