I found if you interrupt your charging habits by just a few hours, it will go back to 100% for a few days before going back to 80% charging.
Why would it need to learn your habits, if your setting is 80% limit. It should respect it at all times.

And yes, I've had it happen numerous times on my 15PM. There's no rhyme or reason why or when it does it.

I’ve had no issues with 80% limit, the phone very rarely goes to 100% as is expected. Optimized charging was a disaster though. It worked fine on my 14 Pro but on the 15 Pro Max it would charge straight to 100 every time without hanging out at 80% at all. I often wake up in the middle of the night and I’ve seen my phone at 100% at 12-1 am with a 6 am alarm set on the phone. I’ve gone back to 80% limit.

My 15 Pro has been on the 80% limit since new 3 weeks ago, and only once has it charged to 100%.

You are asking me why? I am just reporting from my past experience. My ultra will go back to 100% charging for a couple of days if I do not wear it part of the day while wearing my SBTi Series 7 for just like 6 -8 hours! I have tried turning the Ultra off and even leaving it on, while not wearing and it will produce the same result.

I'm just saying, the setting to 80% should not have to learn any usage habits, unlike optimized charging.

its just broken i guess and disregards it sometimes.

‘Others have suggested it charges to 100% occasionally for calibration purposes. It just does.

With the 80% Limit turned on and charging with a USB-C cable, my iPhone will stop and stay at 80% indefinitely.

If I charge my iPhone 15 Pro Max using MagSafe, it'll charge to about 80%; sometimes 75%, 78%, 81% or even 85%. I think MagSafe has a harder time getting it right. USB-C gets it to 80% every time without fail, sans when it needs to charge to 100% for calibration purposes.

I plug my iPhone 15 Pro into the charger i received when buying the phone just the small 5 volt one, takes about 1/2 hour to reach 100%, battery shows normal.

After around 24 hours it's 97% and i charge it again same process.

I use Wifi not calling and don't use phone a lot just checking weather and a few other places.

Not sure this is the best charging process but it seems to be working.
=====
Update: I changed to 80% as i never us over 10 to 15% and at 80% it takes maybe 20 minuets to again be at 80% so just pushing it to 100% wastes charging time and i feel is an over charge.

Well optimized battery charging hasn't worked properly since it was released so it wouldn't surprise me at all that the 80% limit has bugs for some users. In my case 80% limit has worked reliably since it became available. It occasionally will charge to 100% but I have a shortcut that will alert me when it gets to 85% so If I'm near the phone I'll just take it off the charger
Not working for me at all!?

After setting my iPhone 15 Pro to limit charging to 80% i let the phone drop below 80% and started the charging, the phone reached 80% and stopped charging.

Cycle count 23 i have been charging this was for five Months before changing to the 80% limit.

So my iPhones charging system is working as Designed, not really convinced that what i read is meaning anything.

I had been just recharging each night with my phone at around 92% to 100% and i read from the forum members, that i was stressing my battery by doing this so now i am trying the 80% limit i also wounder why my phone was set at default to not limit the charging at 80% right out of the box unless it was changed as it was being setup for me.

I am going to try this 80% for a few Months then remove it and see if it again charges to 100%.

Don’t know what’s happening but another day that it’s going to charge to 100%. Unplugged at 93%.

I understand it's confusing if phone isn't doing something you set, but in this case I wouldn't worry so much since it's not really affecting daily operation.

Can file bug report with Apple-

You may also contact Support to get their advice, although I assume they might say same thing that overall it'll stop at 80% but may still randomly charge to 100

Thanks, I will monitor It. It seems to have sorted itself out after doing a soft reset, or iOS has gotten its act together and back on track with the 80% limit.

Another 100% calibration for accurate state of charge in progress just one week after the last one. I’ll let it carry this out as it’ll keep trying if interrupted.

Start with two margaritas. Follow that up with a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc (chilled). Then, connect your AirPods Pro. Disregard any too-loud-decibel warnings when you click the following link and turn it up:

For reference, I use a 14PM, and my optimized battery charging works reliably, swimmingly:

I dunno. It’s all good no matter the time of day you visit this topic. (It’s 9pm here in Rhode Island, and you might read this reply at 8am.) The time of day doesn’t matter, It’s the level of intoxication that matters. Tim Cook or Craig Federighi don’t sweat this. Don’t stop the party. 🍎 🍸🍹

Mine always charges to 80%. In fact it does so much that I occasionally have to manually recalibrate and let it charge to 100% because otherwise I’ll get about 2-3 total SOT cos it thinks the battery is drained. After a manual recalibration all is right again.

mine has been on optimised charging from the start and no issues really. it's still on 100% when this time last year it was certainly not
