Location of OS X icons?

hello. is there a resources folder in snow leopard with all the different icons/pictures the os uses? i am trying to change the downloads folder icon to look like the downloads icon in the sidebar menu of finder.

i had no luck searching the internet, all i get is folder icons. i want the icon of the green circle with the white arrow inside.

sorry guys, found something similar right after i posted. if anyone is wondering where i downloaded it...

but if there is a place in osx that stores all its icons and pictures, it would be great to know.

this whole thing started cuz i decided i wanted all icons on my dock, no stacks or folders.

You can get any icon from any file on your Mac by right clicking on a file and clicking Get Info. Click on the icon in the top left corner of the get info screen, and press Command-C.

To set it as an icon to another file, find that file, open Get Info, click the icon, and press Command-V.

In Leopard, the icon you seek is located in /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources. Should be the same in SL.

If you would like to find all .icns files on your system, type locate .icns in the terminal, and hit return.

tried it on mac os x lion and it doesn't seem to work.

i get this message:

WARNING: The locate database (/var/db/locate.database) does not exist.
To create the database, run the following command:

sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.locate.plist

Figured it Out

Here's what you do.....
1. Locate the icons ( /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources)
2. Copy an Image and Paste it somewhere else (This is your scratch image).
3. Use Photoshop ( or something comparable) to create a new image 128x128.
4. Open the .icns file with Preview, Select All, and Copy the image.
5. Paste the image into the New Photoshop file.
6. Edit the image or create a new one with those dimensions.
7. Save the image as .GIF
8. Rename the extension to .icns
9. "Get Info" on the folder you want to change.
10. Drag and drop the .icns file onto the image in the upper left.
11. Have a Coke and a smile.
