Here are the problems I am having

-Can't download anything from Software Update. Says "The update ___ could not be verified and expanded correctly. make sure you have permission to right to ...../com.apple.softwareupdate"

-Can't Install anything. Says "there were errors installing the software"

-Can't run Classic. It starts to open, but then the icon turns gray and the loading bar never moves.

I can't find the panther CD, so I need a way to fix these things...Thanks

First, try repairing permissions. This sounds like it could help:

Open Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility
Click on your Hard Drive icon on the left (Macintosh HD, usually), then click the Repair Permissions button.

I had problems with checksum verification on the 10.3.5 Combo update when trying to download it directly from Apple's website yesterday.. so, you're not the only one.

You have a permission problem. Repair permissions as indicated above, and restart for good measure. Should clear your issues right up.
