Hey folks...

I'm thinking about turning my old G4 (new G5 arrives today, woohoo!) into a TiVo. If anyone out there has done this and has any tips or insight, they'd be greatly appreciated. Be gentle: I'm a graphics guy not a tech guy ( but I'm not 100% clueless either ).

For those interested this link describes the same project for pc's.

Thanks!

There aren't many options for creating a PVR with a Mac.

The only real choice is to install a TV card, upgrade the hard drive for video recording and adding a Superdrive if you want to watch shows on a DVD player etc.

A good TV card option is the AlchemyTV. The only difference with PC setups is that there are several software solutions available that are compatible with different TV cards, with a Mac you'll have to use the software provided by the card manufacturer.

You could always go with a Firewire or USB TV tuner too.
