Hi,

I'm putting together this brief guide that explains the customization options available. The site is broadly broken down into the news side (www) and the forums side.

Registration Benefits

Aside from the ability to comment and vote on posts, being a logged in user does reduce the ad frequency on the site.

Ad Free Contributor option

For $50/year, logged in users can remove essentially all ads across www and forums. Other benefits include access to private forums and special badging.

(AMP pages now included!)

Options

These options are all linked from the bottom of the www portion of the site.

Fluid | Fluid HD

Fluid is the recommended version of the site. Fully responsive, but the width max's out at a comfortable size. If you have a much wider screen and wish to use it, you can choose Fluid HD.

News Push Notifications

Turn on/off the Web push notification system for new news stories. This is Safari Desktop only.

Toggle Truncated Stories

If you don't like how Front Page stories have "Show Full Article" buttons, this lets you have expanded stories the default/

Light and Dark Mode

By default, both the www and forums versions of the site adapt to Light or Dark mode depending on your system preferences. If you want to force it to one or the other. This is how:

On www: Auto, Light, Dark.

On forums: You must be logged in and select the Dark or Light theme in the pop up button at the bottom of the screen. Default is "MacRumors AutoDetect"

Featured Block On/Off

The featured stories block on the front page of the site is optional. You can remove it by scrolling down to the bottom of the page. A link at the bottom of the front page allows you to toggle it back on (and off): Toggle Featured Block

Register on MacRumors! This sidebar will go away, and you'll see fewer ads.
