Mail in Sierra does not save Sent messages

This never happened when I used Yosemite or Mavericks

AppleCare rep does not know how to fix this issue. it's a brand new base model non touch bar late 2016 13" MacBook Pro.

So, no messages show up when you click on Sent? Or just no number shows next to it? The number means unread items (except for Drafts). There should be no unread items in Sent (thus no numbers), as has been my experience as long as I can remember.

what bcave098 says; did you actually open the folder? otherwise, what kind of account? ie if it's an imap account, check your settings (on the server...)....
