MBP Using headset with mic (TRRS), mic input is picking up all system output.

i.e. if I have a song playing through the headphones, the mic is picking up and recording all that too.
This also makes voice-calls echoing and annoying for them, though my audio is fine for me.

Looks like it's not picking up the headset as having microphone, wrong sort of trrs config perhaps? As there are at least two different trrs setups I believe.
