hey, I'm working on a project in logic express and have a problem...I have a midi track thats using a logic synth pad from esx24 as the instrument, in one measure of the song, I want to mute every part of the song except for the drums so a fill can be exposed, with audio this is simple of course by just deleting that beat, but for midi, even if I delete beat four the notes from beat 3 naturally sustain over (not using any sustain pedal either) is there a way to instert complete silence for a beat in midi, or cut the notes short somehow?

If you are recording midi notes, etc., then all that should need to be done is to simply delete those midi notes that you don't want. If you want to shorten the midi notes, then how about opening up a midi event editor and shorten the value of the notes??

The wonderful thing about recording midi information is the editing capabilities. Notes can be lengthened or shortened, velocities can be made louder or softer, etc., etc.

I don't know your experience level of midi recording. Please forgive me if I'm sharing information that you already know. However, if you are relatively new to midi recording & editing, there's a bit of a learning curve associated with editing midi, especially with the Logic program (and, I guess in your case, the Logic Express program). If you are unfamiliar with Logic Express, get to know its midi editing capabilities. Most especially, get to know its "Piano Roll" and "Hyper Editor" midi-editing functions. These are very cool tools for editing midi information.

Good luck. . . :)
