It's more expensive than any SSD equivalent. But you get to keep your Applecare warranty.
 
If the 512GB SSD isn't enough, additional 256GB will most likely not last long either. Normally, 512GB SSD is PLENTY to keep your "important" files on... everything else should be stored on some external HDD / Remote Server, etc.
