New Nvidia 8600GT Drivers (3-5 FPS increase) (177.89)

In my efforts to keep everyone updated in the driver field for the 8600GT for the Macbook Pro, etc. I tried these newer drivers out today and they perform very well. I recorded a 3-5 FPS increase over Bootcamp 2.1 drivers running Crysis on MED-HIGH settings. Enjoy. Also, these are pretty much BRAND NEW, they are from 8/12/08. One more thing for installation. Make sure you download the modified INF file and copy it into the folder where the driver contents are extracted after you download otherwise the drivers won't install.

Thanks for sharing this valuable information.
I have experienced sevral BSODs (Blue Screen Of Death) and I am suspecting that the NVIDIA driver is causing this.

So I will try the drivers you are refrenicng and hope that solves my issue.

Are you using the Bootcamp drivers? If so, I avoid the bootcamp drivers, they are 167 or something, kinda old. I rolled back to them only to test the new drivers. Hope it works for you.

I am not sure what you mean by avoid the Bootcamp Drivers cause my understanding is that they include several drivers such as support for the keyboard and others I assume.

I did install the Bootcamp drivers after installing XP. Then I installed
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT version 6.14.11.7493 since the default driver was causing real sow graphics refresh.

Also what did you mean by "rolled back to them" to test the drivers?

Thanks man! Keep it up! I'm still running the default Boot Camp 2.1 driver, so I wonder what if there's a significant performance difference.

No, just the bootcamp graphics drivers. All the other ones are fine and quite necessary. I'm not sure what version of the driver that is you have listed there since the only version numbers I'm familiar with are the xxx.xx numbers.

By rolled back I mean going back to the original driver that came with bootcamp.

Thanks for the update. I looked just yesterday and saw these drivers were available, but I didn't take the plunge to load them yet. Part of that is because I'd have to boot to Windows, and I haven't done that in almost 3 weeks now...

I'm playing Civ IV I got through Steam, and it runs fine as a Crossover game, so I can stay Mac native for my current game addiction.
