  1. macrumors newbie

    I am new to all this and hope that I am posting in the correct forum. I Have just purchased a pair of Grado sr255's and completely love with them. I was content with listening to my Shure SE530's right out of my ipod and macbook but I want more out of the grado's. I have a macbook and will upgrade to a macbook pro when they come out , which is soon hopefully. I am looking for an inexpensive but nice sounding solution to get the audio out and amplified. I have a Canopus ADVC 110 from a project that I did. These are the specs;

    Technical Specifications:
    Video Formats*
    * NTSC: 720x480 @ 29.97fps
    * PAL/SECAM: 720x576 @ 25fps
    *ADVC110 accepts SECAM video input only.
    Audio Formats
    * 2-channel 48kHz 16-bit
    * 2-channel 32kHz 12-bit
    Digital Video Input/Output
    * 1 x 4-pin FireWire (100Mbps)
    * 1 x 6-pin FireWire (100Mbps)
    Analog Video Input
    * 1 x S-Video (4-pin miniDIN)
    * 1 x composite (RCA)
    Analog Video Output
    * 1 x S-Video (4-pin miniDIN)
    * 1 x composite (RCA)
    Analog Audio Input (unbalanced)
    * 1 x stereo (RCA)
    Analog Audio Output (unbalanced)
    * 1 x stereo (RCA)
    Power Source
    * IEEE 1394 bus powered or DC5V from EIAJ#2 DC jack
    Power Usage
    * 4.5W

    Is it possible I could use this with something else? or is it not enough? or even wrong for this purpose. Please forgive my ignorance but all this is very new to me. Any advice is appreciated.

    Lack of Response Answered my Question

    I dug through this and other forums and based on my present and future needs I bought a Apogee Duet. I was able to get one new for $400. I am hoping that was a good deal. Anyone else have an Apogee Duet / Grado setup?
  3. macrumors 68000

    I have no idea what the Grado is but I just purchased the Duet for $500. I don't have my MBP yet either so no experience on it yet. That said, I did my research and you can't get a better digital interface for the money imo.

    Seems odd, most audio websites will at least mention Grado?

    That was helpful :rolleyes:

    Sorry, but really you can't go looking around forums for audio without the mention of Grado. I can copy and paste their website; but they are an American company out of New York that has been producing headphones and other analog audio equipment for years now. The GR60s all the way to the GS1000s are usually considered to be top in their respective classes. If you search around the forums you can find numerous users with great experiences.

    I just can't see myself looking for audio products online for more then an hour before seeing a Grado product.

    I guess I just don't go browsing for audio equipment online...usually I'll know what I'm looking up ahead of time & do some research on that in particular. I prefer word of mouth but still like to check it out myself as well. I'm not a gear head, when I need something I'll go do some looking around but must admit I definitely don't keep up on the latest & greatest.
