The big question is when you order at 12:01 am is that for shipment or pickup at the store? If you are able to reserve them for pickup will there be any reserved for walk-ins that did not order online? Otherwise if they sell out early in the am online for pickup and shipment the people that wait in line may not get anything.

I was thinking the exact same thing. If I don't find out a definitive answer before the 20th (which I'm sure I will), I will try to pre-order (for in-store pick up) at 12:01am, while I am standing in line in front of Apple Store.

From what I understand the 128 GB uses two 64 GB chips. So not enough room in an iphone for that unless they want to reduce the battery. which they won't.

It doesn't have to utilize 2 64 GB units. The only reason the iPad is like that is it is easier on the supply chain and is one less thing to make.

I got this email too, says 12:01AM BST too. How come they're able to do a 12AM launch world wide? I thought it was first come, first server internationally. Well, I guess each country has an amount of stock. Can't wait! Bring on 20th!

Anyone know in the past if carrier stores open early for iPhone launches? My local AT&T stores open at 9am. If they open at 8 I can see myself getting in line at the store by my office since I could get to the office around 8:30 or 9 then depending on the line.

Well, Samsung will need some material for their commercials. This should do.

Nothing says don't buy a product like pointing out how many people are willing to wait in line for one right?

"...They say they're putting a fingerprint sensor... on the home button..."

For those who want to make sure they are able to obtain the iPhone 5s on launch day, Apple will be opening its retail stores at 8:00 AM local time to begin sales. Lines will undoubtedly be long as customers will likely be lining up early to give themselves the best chance at securing their preferred models.

Well, I know where I'll be that morning. :D

Aaron, give it rest. The flack that you are receiving from these guys is deserved. In your original post you opined and suggested that anyone standing in line on a week day was a bum and living off of their parents. Whether you meant it in jest (a poor attempt at humor) or are ignorant to the fact that the entire world doesn't work 9-5 Mon through Fri, the remark came across as classless. The fact that you continue to attack these guys who are calling you out on it is making you look worse....

Admit that you made a mistake, a poor choice of words, and move on. No harm no foul. There are people wishing to discuss the topic at hand...

I never said that everyone standing in line was living off their parents.

The people standing in line for a week for something costing $549, I'd argue that quite a lot of those are probably living off their parents.

But I don't have an issue with people queuing for a couple of hours or perhaps a day or so. I wouldn't do it, it's not like concert tickets where queuing will get you special seats, you will get the same kind of iPhone like the person walking into a WalMart with queuing will get, but like I wrote, I don't have an issue with doing that.

That other people seem to think that what I wrote was about everyone queuing, that's up to them....

I wonder if there are going to be serious supply constraints for the 5S.

Could be but it would be a huge knock on Tim Cooks leadership if there is after last years iMac fiasco & his admitting it was. Plus there can't be a supply shortage & Apple announces weekend sales broke all previous records. If Apple combines iPhone 5s & c sales then everyone is going to know the magic is vaporizing.

Target is currently accepting pre-orders for all iPhone 5S models. Inventory will be processed in the order in which it was received and pre-ordered phones will be dispatched depending upon demand to individual stores scheduled for launch day release. You will receive an email prior to launch day notifying you that the phone has arrived and is under embargo until launch day. You must schedule an appointment with the Target Mobile specialist prior to launch day in order to pick-up and activate your device.

I tried going to Target's website and saw the various models listed, but didn't see how to place a pre-order. Can you elaborate on how you did this?

Thanks!

you can preorder at target and pick up on launch day.

Not online...Did you do that in store?

EDIT: Nevermind....It's not a preorder...All you did was reserve a phone.

http://www.gottabemobile.com/2013/09/13/iphone-5s-pre-orders-target-starts-taking-reservations/

That is no better than where you are now, in fact it could be worse. If they only get 12 iPhones total, 3 of which are the Model you chose, and you were the 10th person to reserve one, you now have 7 people ahead of you while you wait for a phone I am assuming you have already paid for.

So realistically you could be no closer to having one at launch day than anyone else...

Shouldn't have too much of a problem in Boise. Last year for the iPhone 5 I took an early lunch and walked right in and got one. Hopefully it'll work out the same this year, though it's hard to tell with no pre-order this go-around.

They combined iPad and iPad mini sales. Other companies don't even provide sales figures. Has Asus or Google given any figures for the new Nexus 7? I'd be very surprised if Apple announces separate sales figures for the 5C and 5S.

Can't wait... Oh, wait, I'll just walk into Apple Store on my launch break and pick one up as usual ;)
Btw; There were no lines for the release of iPhone 5 last year, don't expect any this year.

Which store does everyone think would be the best option to park myself at next week? Will the Apple Store have the most stock or will the AT&T store, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, etc. be OK?

Mall*Wart or the Rat Shack. Most of the diehards who want it on day 1 will not be thinking along those lines (pun fully intended).

How can you compare last year and this year with the lack of pre-orders this year?

I hope there are not problems, but I'm leaning towards getting in line now.

This isn't people queuing for a movie or concert ticket, this would be people queuing for a week for something that would cost them at least $549.

Many of the people queueing up this early aren't really doing it to buy anything for themselves, they're doing it to get on the local news or other media, or to sell their spot in line closer to opening hour (perhaps even some paid professional line sitters).

Enjoy!

Too bad they don't offer the 64GB models. Just confirmed this with a friend that works there in the mobile center. He said if you want to pre-order, best to do it at the Kiosk IN STORE.

I'll be on at 12:01am and probably actually be able to order one about 2:00am
after clicking refresh 136,000 times and dealing with Apples servers crashing throughout the entire shopping cart process 20-30 times before actually gleefully completing the order.
