Is it supposed to be an incentive for me to buy the 5.5 inch one? Apple try harder :D

4.7 inch is already too big for a phone.

I've never had a phone with more than 16gb so not having 128gb as an option isn't going to bother me much.

Some people keep saying that a phone "doesn't need more than xyz GB", what you're forgetting is that this phone also has the potential to be used for more tablet-liek applications. I really like my iPhone 5 but there are several games that I just can't play on it as I'm used to the screen estate of the iPad mini and iPad 3. However, if the 5.5 offers enough space, it'll be a welcome device for me to use and let's face it, there are more and more large apps around these days, 1+ GB.

Commence the outpour of complaints.

Steve wouldn't have allowed this.
How am I gonna hold it with one hand?
How will I fit this in my skinny jeans?
Might as well put a phone in a iPad mini.
If I wanted a Phablet, I'd buy a Samsung.
But will Safari be snappier?

Did I cover them all?

No you forgot the "Commence the outpour of complaints" type posts, which I think rank near the top of your list.

Any chance that the rumor of the $100 price increase is for the 4.7" if it starts at 32GB? Or is that totally absurd?

4.7" 32GB 299 64GB 399
5.5" 32GB 349 64GB 449 128GB 549

iPad mini didn't get Retina for a year after the big iPad.

arn

That is true, but the current iPad models don't have any features that distinguish from one another other then the screen size.

I don't believe these claims. After years of sticking to a relatively small screen I just don't think that Apple will make a complete 180 turn to make the 5.5" iphone the flagship model.

Inferior? Since the screen is smaller in the first place, by your logic it would be inferior. So why would ONE less memory option make a difference? Worry about real life matters and leave your superiority complex out of this.

Or maybe I would prefer a 4.7" phone with 128gb and there's no psychological explanation behind it and you're not really that smart? Nahhh couldn't be...

Realistically I feel like ~70-75% of people buy the 16gb/base model anyways, ~15-20% buy 32gb/299 ~5-10% buy the 64gb.

I couldn't believe it but when I read some sales figures - I really don't remember from where they were - it seemed to be something like that.

I think you are $100 too high start at $199 and go from there. The old models will be $99

Sorry, I don't think so. MAYBE they make a 4.7 16GB at 199 but I think Apple knows how much hype is surrounding THIS phone. There is probably more hype than when the 4 was introduced.

Besides, everything else is going up in price.....why wouldn't a phone?

For that you need to visit the Verge thread on the moto 360 watch ;) .

Somebody here posts it in just about every thread that mentions a new Apple product. I suggest a time out for anyone who posts Safari is snappier and Shut up and take my money. And a longer time out if posting this image. And it doesn't count for me since I am just using it as an example.

The funny thing is, my nearly two-year old iPhone 5 still feels pretty new to me. My biggest question regarding iPhone 6: will I be able to make calls with it?

I think we're going to see the 5.5" model with the optical stabilisation and the option for 128GB. The 4.7 won't get the same camera, but they will probably say both cameras will get a lower f -stop and/or larger pixels for better low light work. That way they can say even the lesser 4.7" has a better camera than the 5s.

OKAY!!!

I literally have been on this site for 6 months and just now made a username to only ask this one question because I'm literally dying to know lol!!

why would ANYONE with the 4.7" care about 128 when ALLLLL I seeks people taking about "I don't want a phablet, I just want a small screen I don't want an iPad to my head. "

the reason, IF, (big IF at that) the bigger phone would only have the extra room is because apple is indeed calling it a phablet and intending to market it as such.
the iPad was gracefully brought into our lives to enjoy, watch video on our lap, make quick notes on documents on the go, use in an airplane, use on a bus... etc! all of that stuff requires space!

people with the 4.7 won't be using their phone like the people with the 5.5 do. period. 5.5 people will (mostly) use this as the all In one device. I've seen countless people say I want a small phone. I have an iPad. I don't need a big phone. That's AWESOME! because you have two devices you have AT LEAST 32GB. while we only (till now) had AT MOST 64.

surely someone agrees with me on this! also, great to finally speak my mind I've been wanting to let that out forever

The 128GB model, if true, will be hella expensive. IIRC, I paid $299 + tax for a 32GB 5S on contract. A 64GB version was IIRC $399 + tax. A 128GB version would be at least $499 if not higher.

Hopefully 32GB will replace the 16GB price point.
Only if Apple has gone completely stupid and has lost all respect for its customers. The price of flash has come down so much that they should have doubled storage last year at the given price points.

I wouldn't blame Apple for sticking with 2 storage sizes. 16gb isn't a great user experience in my opinion and the cost to Apple is negligible. Think about how many models a US Apple store has to keep straight: 3 Colors, 3 Storage Sizes, 4 Carriers = 36 iPhone 5S models. Two screen sizes would double that to 72 models. Taking away one storage capacity lowers it to 48 models to keep straight. They already only offer two storage sizes on the 5c, limiting it to 40 models.

I would have thought they would streamline carrier variations. I mean the radio chips tend to cover more standards over time. They got down to just 1 for 3G but jumped up again to 4 for LTE. Get that down to 3 or even 2 and they can open a lot more user choice.

Currently 8 (5 +3)colours x 3capacities = 24 user choice option x 4 carrier types = 96 supply chain models across phones.

Then they could do both. Increase screen size and colour choice / reduce capacity choice and supply chain logistics. Win /Win sort of.

My predictions:

4.7" on contract

$199 32GB
$299 64GB

5.5" on contract

$299 32GB
$399 64GB
$499 128GB

Add $450 to each price for off contract pricing.

5.5" features over the 4.7":
1. Screen size and resolution (duh)
2. Option for larger storage capacity
3. Better battery life
4. Better camera
