score dood. Congrats.

I wonder if the 1GB SO-DIMM (as touted as an option for all three of the new ones) will work in the original 12" PowerBook. That'd give me 1152MB in my machine. If anyone knows - I'm very interested.

The 1GB SODIMM is the delay.

Most other option changes only make it a 3-5 day wait.

Thanks so much Bear for the heads up!

I changed my order from 1GB SODIMM to 2x512 and it pushed my shipping date up from 10/29/03 to 9/23/03!!! I'm so psyched!

Ya, that's what I did. Now, when can we expect companies to start carrying the RAM for the updated pbooks? Is it the same RAM as before?

Sorry to get off topic..

I don't think it'll take too long before we see people offering RAM upgrades. Apple uses (pretty much) generic boards, so every good RAM retailer should have the stuff in stock. I think the 15" and the 17" use the same RAM, and that's already on Crucial.

By the way, I too bought a new PowerBook this morning->

15.2" AlBook>>

1.25 GHz G4
512 MB RAM (1-SODIMM... Planning to get this puppie up to 1 GB after I take delivery, and maybe 2 GB when I have the cash)
80 GB HD @ 4200 RPM (Figured it wouldn't suck as much battery power as the 5400 RPM one)
2x SuperDrive
AirPort Extreme
Backlit Keyboard

On top of that ->

10 GB iPod
Crappy $100 HP Printer

Yeah, I'm a student. Overall it came to $2,751 for me, then take away the $300 for the rebate, so I'm only paying $2,451... Pretty decent. I was thinking about going for LapZilla, but figured that it'd suck in class (since I want to take notes). The extra 80 MHz isn't going to make much of a difference. I can still store a lot of porn :D

Your safest bet is to check out Crucial.com. They sell the most compatible RAM for any retail computer. Excellent service, fast shipping, and not too pricey. They already have RAM for the new PB models up. 512MB PC2700 = $146

Ordered mine this morning, didn't need a Superdrive (got one in my MDD) or big HD.

1.25Ghz G4
512Mb Ram (2 SO-DIMMs)
60Gb HD
Combo Drive
Backlit keyboard
Airport Extreme
Extra AC

Funny thing is that it was £2 less than a 1Ghz model with the same spec... :) Ought to arrive on Monday.

I ordered my 15" with superdrive standard setup yesterday and said it would ship on or before Sept. 19th, Checked today and it has shipped via airborne express, yea! I can't wait, also ordered a 20gb ipod but that won't be shipped till on or before the 22nd. Should I have gotten the 40gb ipod instead? Oh well, could still change my order since it has'nt shipped yet. My old imac 350 firewireless is going to be relegated to archive duty.

Just a little over six days till mine ships.....my applecare shipped yesterday and the extra mattery doesn't ship till mid october.

The rebate for anyone wondering is as follows.

If you buy a mac, an HP printer, and an iPod they give you $300 back. In other words they give you $100 towards the printer and $200 towards the iPod.

For those who missed it, this is an educational rebate only. Regular purchasers can get a $99 (US) rebate on some HP InkJets right now.

Remember rebates and amounts do vary by country.
