I hope I am in the right place.

I'm a teacher new to photography and I have a student who's pics that were put on the computer from the SD card are on the desktop in a stack called "images"

When you click the "images stack" they all open up but won't easily allow you to click and drag. I'm not sure what he did.

I want it back to normal where we can simply pull photos from the card and place on the desktop to be renamed and moved to where we want...none of this image stack nonsense.

Any help will be appreciated

If you right-click somewhere on the desktop (not on an icon or folder), you will see "Turn off Stacks" (or something like that) in a dropdown menu.
If stacks is not turned on, you will then see "Use Stacks"
Stacks moves everything on the desktop to categories, i.e., stacks, such as what you see - the Images Stack.
Turn off Stacks, and the files and folders on the desktop will return to normal (non-stacks), and you will see the images to edit or whatever, as you would expect.
