Still running Mac Snow Leopard, 10.6.8 quite happily.
Dock question: in it I keep Google.
Got it by dragging the little icon in the address bar down to dock on right side.
In the dock it became the "springy-thing" icon with an A on it.
When I scroll over it, it reads Google.
I often do research of local England and while lately both Google pages seem identical, I like to search using the address google.co.uk.
I've pulled the icon down to the dock right side, and again the springy-thing-A icon appeared, reading Google when scrolled over. All is well.
But, my question, what I want to do …
When scrolling over I want it to read Google.UK … just re-name it, not change the icon.
Is there a way to change the copy, keep the spring icon?

You can change the name manually by editing com.apple.Dock.plist. Here are the steps to do it:

1. In Finder, Go > Go to Folder
2. Paste ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Dock.plist and hit Go.
3. Open the file with a text editor.
4. Command-F and search for the URL, in this case google.co.uk.
5. A few lines above the URL it will say <string>Google</string>. You can change the name by editing what's between the string tags.
6. Save the file.
7. In Terminal type killall Dock or simply log out and back in. It will then have the new name.
