Are they really considered to be animals?

Invertebrates, the books say that they are animals...they require food, light heat etc. are capable of reproduction in various ways, and add a lot of color to a tank. Easy they are not, as they require specific parameters and certain fish will eat them too.

You have to research everything you put in....he spends a great deal of time and money on the tank.

I've recently had the urge to get a set-up going, Ill have to do some reading up.

Any recommendations on starter tank size? not look for something extremely small.

I would start with a 20 gallon. Anything smaller and its harder to maintain water quality. Get the biggest tank you have space for/can afford. If I had the room I would get a 55+, sadly the biggest I can fit is a 28.

How many gallons is that? It's a nice shape, but I'd have gone with just a betta or some small micro tetras. Those barbs are probably not so happy in there!

They where the left overs from my old tank, and I didn't want to put them in the new display tank...

Using pure ammonia to cycle it will take you about 5-7 days. Did it when I had my 90 gallon Cichlid tank.

This thread makes me miss my tanks. Im almost tempted to get a small 20 gal freshwater setup.

Current FTS of my 16g nano reef; stocked with 2 ocellaris clowns, 1 firefish, 1 royal gramma, 1 blood shrimp, a few cerith/astrea/nassarius snails, and a few hermits. Debating on picking up compatible coral or small anemone to give my clowns a host.

Over here we get 'Fish Tank Kings' and 'Tanked' on TV and I just love those shows! Some the aquariums they put in are beautiful!

We have a small 10 litre tank with guppys and tetras. We have lost a lot of fish, but only recovered 1 body.

I'd love a big aquarium but we don't have the room for it!

Great reefs! I'm doing a semester abroad in Fiji right now and I go crazy just looking at all the live rock when I go snorkelling! I could be rich if I could take it back with me!

This is my 27 cube tank:




I have one angelfish, 10 black neon tetras, a mickey mouse platy (last of his school from 3 years ago) and two danios/glofish.

I have duel Aqueon filters and a 150watt fluval heater. I am looking for a desktop tank to hold a single beta. I am thinking between the aqueon evolve 4/8 or the fluvial spec 2.6 gallon. I dislike how the aqueon is acrylic but I fear 2.6 gallons is two small for my beta.

I had an iwagumi style freshwater aquarium.. Here are pictures that are months apart showing the progress my tank made.

I did a 3 month "dry start" to get the plants growing.

I posted here before, but I tore that setup down and redid it a while ago. My tank now houses African Cichlids... more specifically Mbuna. I'd like to add more rock and then more fish, but for now, with the rock work I have I'm good. A couple pics of the evolution here: http://imgur.com/a/WF5U4

thats quite a bit of money. However depends on what you want in the tank (fish, decorations/look) and the equipment (size). If you want plants I would say the C02, tank, and plants could get costly very quickly.
