Okay, I was wondering, I have a 1 GHz 17" PowerBook and it says that the max ram it can support is 1Gig. Is that because you can only get 512 chips at the moment, or is it cause thats all it can recognize?

Also, the new PB support up to 2 gigs. Does anyone know how many RAM slots there are?

i was going to start another thread, but might as well ask it here:

i was wondering exactly what type and specs the RAM in the new PowerBooks are, specifically the 15".

i know it's PC2700, DDR 333. but i just want to know the specs so when i buy my third party RAM i'm not trying to put desktop RAM in the PB. or is there a difference?

one description from OWC: "512MB PC2700 DDR 333MHz CL2.5 184 Pin Module". that RAM was only listed for use in the PowerMacs and xServe... but is the PowerBook RAM any different? do i have to get 'low profile' RAM?

also just found these specs on OWC:

512MB PC2700 DDR 333MHz CL 2.5 200 Pin Low-Profile (non-stacked!) Memory Upgrade for All PowerBook G4 17" & 12" Models

Product Specifications

Size: 512MB

200-pin SO-DIMM

DDR PC2700

Data Rate = 333MHz

CAS = 2.5

1.25" Height

Low Noise 6-Layer PCB

Meets or Exceeds Apple Specifications

Also supports PC200 CAS 2.0, PC2100 CAS 2.0 or 2.5 operation

Fully complaint with JEDEC specifications

Lifetime Advance Replacement Warranty

so when buying RAM for the new 15" PB, do i just have to make sure that it's 1.25" height & 200 pin? (of course being PC2700 as well).

yeah, i've seen a few places that are saying the Rev. A 17" PowerBooks can take 2GB RAM. just have a look around the net at some places where you can upgrade your RAM, just to be sure.
