Quick iPhoto question

Do I need to have my photos in a separate directory if I use iPhoto?

At the moment I have my pics in a folder, then I've also got them in my iPhoto folder, is this necessary, or can I just deleted my pics and let iPhorto take care of them all?

No - so long as you're
a - using iPhoto 5 or earlier in which case it's manging your photos
b - using iPhoto 6 but have selected to have iPhoto managing your photos.

One caveat though - it is always worthwhile having a backup copy of your photos (or iPhoto library) just in case the iPhoto library gets corrupted.
