My current iPad is Pro 9.7 and it cannot be updated to iOS 17 and will stay on latest version of iOS 16. This never ever happened to me before so I am unsure what will happen since I always buy newer device before old one cannot be updated. Normally when I get new device I use iTunes (now in Finder) to restore from backup from old device to new device. Since iPad Pro 9.7 is iOS 16 and new iPad will be iOS 17 and will I able to restore from backup or I need do it different way?

I do not have new iPad yet, I am preparing info ready before new iPad comes out (Air or Pro, not yet decided).

Should be no problem.
It will be a problem if the new iPad has an older version of iPadOS.
But a back-up with an older version of iPadOS will work on the new iPad.

Thanks. There wasn't any info I can find online. It keeps coming up as restore iPad/iPhone to older iOS which was NOT I searching for in Google.
