So I was looking at my system prefs for the heck of it today and noticed something odd. Originally my Sawtooth 400 MHz was shipped with a DVD-CD read only drive which I replaced with a Pioneer DVR-109 superdrive. In previous versions of OS X the drive was listed as vendor supported. Under 10.4.3 my drive is now listed as Apple Shipped/Supported?!

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109:

Firmware Revision: 1.17
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
Cache: 2000 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL
Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: No

I know it is not a big deal... just a little interesting to me

I'd guess that it's just because it's the exact drive they have included stock as a "SuperDrive" with one of the Mac models, and they just didn't bother to cross check the fact that you are using a computer that most definitely did not come with a Pioneer DVD RW...a convenient little coincidence. :)
