Like some folks here, I was pretty confused by the changes to photo management introduced by iOS 8. Here's a good article I found that de-mystifies some of these changes :

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/instant-expert-secrets-features-of-ios-8.0

Some call outs from the article :

  • Photo Stream remains in place and continues to work mostly the same as it did in iOS 7, although the separate “My Photo Stream” album no longer appears; Photo Stream photos are simply included in the main photo collection.
  • The old “Camera Roll” and “My Photo Stream” albums no longer appear. Since photos in both of these categories appear in the main “Photos” screen, the separate albums were somewhat redundant. Instead, a “Recently Added” album appears at the top showing all of the photos added within the last 30 days.

Even though the article references the iCloud Photo Library, apparently this feature didn't make it into iOS 8 that was released yesterday : https://www.macrumors.com/2014/09/12/apple-demotes-icloud-photo-library-beta/
