I'm going to get a 12" PowerBook. I'm not sure if I should get a SuperDrive or an external firewire drive. I would like the convenience of the internal drive but I don't think I would like the slower CD burning speed, which is what I would be doing mostly on the road, and just use the DVD burner at home for backups.

Could I get a fast DVD burner (external, firewire 400) for $200 or less?

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks,

You can get an internal 8x DVD burner from www.lacie.com for well under $200 and then you can put it in an external firewire enclosure that will cost about $40.

Go here for the burner: (The internal one is $130)

Go here for a list of enclosures:

http://www.newegg.com/app/searchPro...Go&description=Enclosure&Range=1&InnerCata=92

Just make sure that the enclosure's IDE interface is IDE, because that is the interface that the burner uses. Also make sure that you buy a 5.25" enclosure.

You're all set!

Good luck,

i would go for the external, you could then get it when you wanted to, when you can afford it and if you wanted you could get the dual layer one as well
