I was told they got 6 at launch and have been getting additional shipments of one or two. The friendly guy in electronics said he wishes Apple would just give them a boatload so people would quit calling to ask about them.

They are not leftovers, or at least they aren't ALL leftovers. I called my Target at a little before 1:00 this afternoon. She said they got a very small shipment today. I asked if they had white 32gb WiFi and she said they had 2. I asked if she'd hold it and she said she couldn't do that. By the time I got there about 20 minutes later, they had sold one and I took the other. Our Target kept them in the back and not on display. While I was waiting for them to bring it up, she took a couple more calls. She stated that they had VZW 64/32 in black and that was it.

Just picked last one, 64gb white (only one showing limited availability online). I'll keep checking and will update when the site reports out of stock to give others an idea of how accurate the site is.

I went to that site and every single store in 50 miles showed out of stock except one by my job which showed a 64 black wifi limited supply. I went there, the guy saw he had one in the scanner. He walky talked a manager about the "discrepancy". The manager said they had to show as one in stock for display. The worker disagreed, the manager came over to us in a very assertive way made clear THERE ARE NO IPAD 2's IN THIS STORE and walked away in a huff. I asked nothing in the back? Apparently they don't have or keep any electronics in stock. *******z

Got mine at 5:05 and by 5:45 the stock was updated to out of stock.

They get in more, I've been watching the stock go in and out on a few stores around here.

I made a script that checked around my area, these were the ones that came up with availability:

it's the dpci # followed by zipcode. Sorry for the crappy formating, too lazy to fix it. I just grep'd for 'avail' to see where they have it. In SoCal, it's mostly 64GB versions that are in stock.

SUCCESS! I, and two other fine gentlemen got ours at the Redondo Beach, CA location right at opening this morning.

Note: Even though the DPCI checker showed "Available" (not just "Limited Availability") for the black, wifi-only 32GB model, the electronics clerk didn't know that any were available.

One of the other guys there with me this morning had to physically spot the boxes for iPad 2 and let her know to open up the locked case to check.

Before we were able to purchase, another clerk had to come and scan the different models. Presumably to enter into the local inventory?

Just a note if anyone is going to check out their local Target stores right when they open.

Seems to vary. The guy I talked to today said they had a few for launch, then nothing until last night a half dozen came (all now sold).

So they do seem to be flowing slowly.

Same here. Picked up 615pm, and OOS by 7pm. Looks like online inventory is accurate to within an hour.

i would say try the site again first thing tomorrow morning (around 8 am). target usually gets their shipment trucks in overnight.

Santa Ana is defintely out of stock even though it shows the 32GB WiFi Black & 64GB WiFi White as available. Employee in electronics said that UPS deliveries between 8am - 6pm.

A Target an hour away from me has shown the 16GB 3G/ATT model as "Available" for the last two days. I cannot believe they actually have any in stock since every other Target within 100 miles is out of stock of every model.

Arrived at the Camarillo Target store as it opened, ran to electronics and they had a 64gb black wifi. Bought it and rushed to the Thousand Oaks Apple store and got in line hoping to get the 32gb wifi I wanted. Got up to the front of the line and they announced they were sold out. Ran to the Simi Valley Target since they still showed limited availability on a 32gb wifi and sure enough, they had 1 white one. Bought it and using it right now. Selling the 64gb in eBay.

Two stores changed from "out of stock" to "available" last night. Called (at 8:00 am) the closest (Ventura, CA) and was told they didn't have any. I even had them double check on their computer for both their store and the other - neither showed "available" on their internal inventory system. A bit later (after stamding in line at local Apple Store - no joy), I also checked the store in person, with the same result - nada.

No one at either store had an explanation as to why the online system would have actively switched [last night] to "available", and yet nothing was at the stores.

I'll check again tonight. If they show "available" before closing, I can give them call and try to verify.
