Ok, this is annoying.. Just started happening this morning and I can't figure this out.

I can't open *any* .rtf file on an external drive connected to my Airport now... *from finder*

I can SAVE a .rtf file on my external drive no problem, If I try to open it from finder... I get this message.
If I open Textedit and browse to the file... opens fine.
If I try to open the file with any other app *from Finder* I get the above message, from any app, I can open it just fine.

This is just with .rtf files... I can still open any other file just fine.

Eject/reconnect drive, still can't open.
Restarted mac, still can't open.
Restarted Airport, same.

Drag the .rtf file to desktop, opens fine.

There are other threads from people that are having problems opening files from external drives. It appears to be a bug with the current 10.12.2. Hopefully Apple will fix it soon. Your only options are the workarounds you have already discovered.

Great.
At least it's a known bug and not something new. (Did a search and didn't find anything with that error posted, so they must have worded it differently)
