New MBP

I just picked up my first Mac and so far I am ecstatic about it.
It is (new Version) 13" 8g/256 SSD pro with Retina and the new force touch track pad.

I welcome all suggestions to make the most of this laptop. I will mainly be doing word documents, spreadsheets, some movie watching and a moderate amount of Photoshop work and audio.

Decided to get my first macbook pro retina instead of waiting on the macbook. I got the mid 2014 for a really good deal at best buy.

Its the 13 inch mid 2014 with a 2.6 i5 processor, 8GB of ram and a 128GB hd. Usually when i've gotten a mac its always been open box so this is the first "new and never used one i've had"

Some of my favorite apps that really help with daily use are HyperDock and f.lux. Also really take some time to learn all the multi-touch gestures. It makes a huge difference. You will hate using any laptop that doesn't have it.

Is that the new 2015 model ? If so I'm surprised they had it in store. I was under impression the i7 and extra 8GB of RAM were only available as build to order options on their web site. How come you were able to purchase it in store.

I agree, that's odd that the store had that configuration available. I had to order mine online as build-to-order.

I got my 2.8/1TB/16GB rMBP from the store when Apple ****ed up my repair on my 17" MBP... they pulled it out from the back, sealed brand new. I was under the impression that they were BTO but I guess not...

My 1st Mac came from the online refurbished Apple Store, I just picked up the 2014 Pro Retina at Microcenter. It is a sweet feeling to open that "new" box isn't it? Enjoy your Pro, it is amazing !

Finally able to order my rMBP as soon as the one I want becomes available in the Refurb list. I've been patiently waiting since October.

Silly as this sounds, I can't wait to have a computer with a blacklit keyboard. Never had one with it.

I know this isnt a "I just got it" post but I love finding out new things about this thing. I have a 2011 iMac and an external monitor and now the 2015 rMPB. I was uing the iMac in target display mode with the 2nd monitor running from a miniDP to DVI adapter. Well I just picked up the OWC TB2 port replicator and thought I would try something that was said to not work. I plugged the rMPB to the OWC box and the iMac to it as well both with TB connections. Then plugged the external monitor to the HDMI port. I didnt expect the target display mode to work but it does which saves me up another plug going to the rMPB. Its a small victory but a nice one.

Ordered my 2014 refurb on Friday, should receive it tomorrow.

I paid AU$1569 for a 2.6/8/256. The 2015 model with the same ram/ssd is AU$550 more (new), so I think the refurb was definitely the better buy, especially considering the benchmarks don't put the 2014 too far behind the 2015.

Bang on... no issues with the mid 2014... the difference is hardly noticeable.. Unless you need the latest model each time, you will be more than happy with your buy...

Thanks mate! My normal usage is for web development, which I currently do on a PC with half the power of a rMBP, or a 2011 iMac quad core which has practically the same geek bench score. So I'm confident it will be more than powerful enough for my needs.

If a 2014 model isn't powerful enough, a 2015 model wouldn't be either.

Just got my refurb mid 2012 15" MBP (2.3 quad core i7 and 512MB nVidia GT 650M) this afternoon (I wanted the most recent model that could still be user upgraded).

Dropped in 8GB RAM (it came with 4GB) and my Crucial MX100 512GB SSD (from my late 2008 15" MBP) and it flies!! Especially when compared to the 2008 15". :)

The only downer was the day after I ordered, and my order was finalized, for $100 more, a refurb 2.7 quad core i7 with 1GB nVidia GT 650M became available....:(

But I'm still happy with my new toy!!:D

Oh, and I can't believe how much cooler it runs than the old MBP. Right now, typing this post, it's at 34 C; earlier today, when I was on this forum with my old MBP, it was around 48 C.

Recently played around with the new Macbook. I can't believe that I was actually contemplating getting one of those when it was first announced (over my mac) 13 inch is the standard when it comes to Power/Portability i have a feeling that there will be a lot of people regretting that purchase.

Just ordered the 2015 rMBP 2.9/512/16. Had the opportunity to pick up a 2013 2.4/256/8 for £625 but passed it up, something didn't seem correct/had a strange vibe so passed it up and went new and with Apple warranty.

3-7 days estimated shipping time :(

Just ordered a base mid-2014 15" rMBP, replacing my base 13" MBP from 2009.

The 13" has done decently well till now thanks to an upgrade of RAM and SSD. I have primarily used an iMac for awhile, so the lack of power on the MBP haven´t been a problem. Although now that I have started relying more on using a laptop again, I found it was about time to replace it.

I nearly went for the new 13" rMBP. The specifications for it ought to be sufficient for me. However comparing them at the store made me appreciate the larger screen. Besides now I get to go for the MBP size that me interested in getting a Mac, the time in high school when a friend bought a 15" MBP.

I was tempted to wait for the refresh, the improved battery life would have been nice, but in the end my patience lost and I ordered it.
Now to wait for it to arrive next week.

Just ordered a base 13" MBP (2015), since I missed OS X so much. Got it for less than 1300$ due to a combination of Amazon Prime and points on my card. It's going to be awesome.

I got a new MacBook Pro 13" retina, base model this tuesday, as I did want a smaller and more portable notebook, selling my 15" retina early 2013, and still having $350 spare after the purchase. I no longer use notebooks as my primary computer, and thats why I changed. I got the mid-2014 as there were a good deal on that model, instead of the 2015 model, the $250 more could not be defended I think.

Sorry if this is off topic, but where is the best place to get a refurb Macbook pro with retina? I seen that Cowboom has some good deals, but not sure that I should order an used computer from there.

Just walked out of the Apple store with a new 13" retina MacBook Pro 3.1GHz i7/16GB/512GB. I didn't need the upgrade to the i7, but I did want the 16GB RAM so I just did it.

Either way, this thing is very, very nice. It's a huge upgrade from my last Mac, a 2.53GHz Core2 Duo MacBook Pro handed down to my parents in 2013.

On a whim I bought a new 13" Retina Pro yesterday. Base model. I forgot how beautiful the screen was on these models. My Air's looks really rough in comparison.

Bought my very first Apple laptop last week from BB as my 6 yr old Dell XPS died. And I was hitting my head on why I switched to OS X just now lol. Anyways, I saved about $225 (BB discount of $75, 10% Movers coupon, $10 BB Rewards).

I could not put this beast down....the screen is to die for. I'm still contemplating on whether to get an AppleCare or not. I'm pretty careful with my toys but you'll never know what will fail. So convince me to get an Apple Care.

Congrats, I made the switch to Mac from using various dell XPS laptops for well over a decade and various other windows based machines before then.

You have a year to decide to get AppleCare. I personally did and would. As you stated you never know what might happen no matter how careful you are something's are simply beyond your control.

Just got my firs Mac ever. 13" rMBP. Love it so far.

I have spent my entire life using Windows and am very invested in Windows the Windows system (have Server 2012 backing up my families 9 or so clients) and work in IT so I stare and configure Windows/Windows Server all day.

Decided I wanted a change and realized learning OSX would only help me. Took a while to get used to the file system and things like that, but so far the experience is great. I really wouldst say its better than Windows, but its definitely a different and better user experience.

I also want to add that for my main Windows setup, I am currently running a 3 monitor setup. I would like to dedicate one monitor to the Macbook, but use the same mouse and keyboard (plugged into my Windows machine) for both machines. Anyone have any ideas on how I can accomplish this? Virtual KVM?
