Trying to upgrade late 2006 iMac (iMac5,1; Intel Core 2 Duo; 2.16 GHz; 2 GB memory) from 10.6.8 to 10.7. Downloaded Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Installer from Apple Support, Downloads. Launched Installer, passed compatibility test, hit install, ended with "...successfully installed." Restarted iMac and "About this Mac" still shows version 10.6.8.

Please advise what I am doing wrong. Much appreciated.

Once you run that installer, look in the Applications folder for the “Install Mac OS X Lion” installer, then run that to actually upgrade the operating system.

Thanks for your help. Surprising solution; can't remember ever installing software or upgrades from the Applications folder. However, an error message popped up when the installer was launched in the Applications folder: "The software could not be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading."

Some internet sleuthing found an Apple Support Discussions thread from 2011 with the solution: Right click Mac OS X Installer, choose "Show Package Contents," open "Contents" folder, go to "Shared support" and open "Install ESD.dmg," then double click on Install Mac OS X Lion.

Thanks again.
