I bought a 4S two years ago for £499.
A year later the iPhone 5 cost me £529.
This year an iPhone 5C will set you back £549.

A 50 quid increase in the space of two years, what are Apple playing at?

Not wanting to sound stupid as there is a difference. But what is the differnce between 5c and 5s. Is the 5c a 5 in a different case?

... shows the model of the 5S that will be sold in the UK as A1457, supporting EE and Vodafone, compatible frequencies below. Why only EE and Vodafone?

2 (1900 MHz)
3 (1800 MHz)
5 (850 MHz)
7 (2600 MHz)
8 (900 MHz)

The unlocked US model is A1533, supported frequencies below. Would a US version would be a better acquisition than a UK one?

I was kind of set on the 5c, figured it would be £399 max.

It's way too close in price to the 5s, I'll probably wait now.

Wow I thought the 5C was supposed to appeal to emerging markets, kids etc - but priced at £469 off contract lol, that aint gonna happen.

This x 1 million. Insane pricing if those are the markets this is aimed at. You can still get a Crackberry for @£100 in the UK, BBM is still a big deal for teenagers on PAYG or lower user tariffs*

(*Source: teaching Computing to 800 teenagers. We talk phones.)

iPhones are only happening for the sixth formers old enough to get contracts - Android is the name of the game for most, with BB coming in second. I see more Windows phones that I do iPhones.

Anyone got an idea of how much I could roughly get for my iPhone 4 16GB, factory unlocked (if I do decide to sell for the iPhone 5S)? :|

Thanks

They know people will pay so why not?

Don't forget the pound has also appreciated since the 4S and is getting stronger so Apple will effectively be making even more than the £50 increase. But these are great devices so I see nothing wrong in charging a premium in markets that will bear it.

A1533 doesn't have Band 7 (2600MHz) - which the UK networks WILL be using.

Really strange NOT to see O2 or Three on there - maybe they just haven't confirmed it yet as opposed to it not being supported.

I got £125 for my 16GB 4 last month from O2 Recycle. Don't know how much unlocking and selling privately would affect that

Three and orange will fall under the EE supported 1800mhz so 4g support there... apple just didnt list them individually.

Vodaphone will fall under the 2600mhz band (not great for distance, coverage or wall penetration)

o2 is using 800mhz which at the moment doesnt seem supported!

EE are the luckiest here as they have 1800mhz and 2600mhz for capacity in built up areas like cities.

I'm a bit disappointed that my network three wont run at 800mhz but at least this is very rare as three will be mainly running on 1800mhz
