I currently just plug my ipod into my HiFi amp using the headphone to phono lead. I have been told that using a Universal doc to connect to the amp will result in better quality and higher output levels. Is this the case? Is the difference really noticeable?

I have no idea if it'll give better quality but I doubt it - it does keep your ipod in a standing sort of position though, and you can play video through it to your telly if you have an s-video cable. And your front row remote will work with it.

It's kinda useful to have one kicking about.

It gives much better quality; it's a proper line-level signal with the correct impedance for line-in. And the signal is not taken after the noisy headphone output stage.
