According to Apple’s fine print all their iphone’s come unlocked except for those purchased on an AT&T device plan. Does that mean that if I’m a T-mobile user i can purchase a verizon model in order to save 30 dollars and simply put my t-mobile sim in? Or does it have to be first activated on verizon first or something?

And I think Verizon charges $20 for online activation or $40 for in person activation.
It’s not worth it IMO ...
Exactly ...hate giving them that fee ...what are you doing to earn it ? Nothing !
I wonder the same thing. I buy the phone and switch my SIM from my old phone into the new one, what exactly is Verizon doing to "earn" this fee? So, if I buy the Verizon version of the 12 mini from Apple, I'll get it for $699 plus an activation/upgrade fee of $20 (if I'm understanding correctly). Or, I can buy it from Apple SIM-free/unlocked for $10 more. I'd rather not give either of them any more money than I already do, but I'll probably just buy it at $10 more from Apple.
I'm not even sure if it's $20 from Apple ..I know on VZW website you do it yourself for the $20 ...I spend plenty on tech but I don't like giving away extra either..same as getting my cash from ATM ...
