Usb flash disk - dual use

I have a usb flash disk and I want to use it both in windows and osx.
Is there any application I should install in mac?
I should be able to read/write in both systems.
What do I have to do?

If it works under Windows, it should work under OSX.

If you do need to format it under OSX at any time, if you format it in Disk Utility as MS DOS, (FAT 16 in effect), then it should continue to work. Format it as Mac OS Journaled and it will only work on Macs.

If you haven't formatted it specifically for the Mac you'll probably find it will 'just work'. If not you need to format it with FAT32, this can be read/written to by both Windows and OSX.

You can do this in disk utility. Find the drive, choose the 'erase' tab, pick 'MS-DOS File System' then click Erase.
