Uses a iPad as a screen for a mini without a wireless router?

Is this possible? Can i set a wireless network with just the mini. I use splashtop to connect to my desktop pc at home. A mini would have an extra use for me if I could take it away in my caravan and use my iPad as the screen. I know in the worst case I could take a router, or a screen but caravaning is all about reducing the amount of kit you take away, and wattage is limited on sites.

I believe that you could do this by creating a hotspot with your Mini and having your iPad connect to it.

Check out Air Display, you can build an Ad Hoc wireless network between your iPad and Mac and then Air Display allows you to use your iPad as a display for your Mac Mini. I've only ever used air Display as a secondary screen, never as a primary so that might be it's downfall, but you can try it.
