I'm getting a new iMac to replace an older model. I use Time Machine for backups and want to keep using the same external HD as I've been using with the old iMac. Can I just connect it to the new computer and continue using it as-is? Or do I need to wipe all the old backups from it?

Assuming you're going to migrate the data from your old iMac to the new one, you can continue to use the same external HD to do the backups. If you no longer have any use for the older backups, then just erase the drive and start over.
