I'm looking into purchasing a used Magic Trackpad 2 from craigslist/ebay/facebook market and want to ensure that it is an authentic Apple product. I used the Apple serial number look up in an attempt to validate the authenticity of a craiglist ad, but I kept receiving an error message prompting me to enter a correct serial number.

I then cross checked the Apple look up with a different MT2 I found on ebay, but received the same error message. After several double and triple checks, I can confirm that I am not entering the numbers incorrectly.

links to products I checked (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-Magi...=item4b5dacc42e:g:drYAAOSwQ5VcZObR:rk:14:pf:0 | https://nashville.craigslist.org/sys/d/nashville-apple-magic-trackpad-2-new/6822264590.html)

Has anyone run into a situation where the Apple serial look up didn't like the number you were entering?
Are there any other ways to authenticate an apple accessory, specifically the MT2?

Also are MT1 compatible with MBP 2015 13"?

I've not seen any of the Apple MK or MT that are non-genuine but it doesn't mean they don't exist. I would say the SN validation failing is normal since I've never had a SN for the last three generations of authentic MK and MT which I've checked. Others may reply to confirm.
